One Scary Evening Changed Everything

It started with a bowl of store-bought chicken broth. My tabby cat Miso was sitting next to me on the couch and got into it before I noticed. The broth contained garlic powder — something I had no idea was dangerous for cats.

A frantic call to my vet, a stressful evening, and a very lucky outcome later, I started searching for a resource that could help me quickly check whether any food was safe for my cats. I could not find one that was clear, accurate, and easy to use.

"I wanted one place I could go to get a straight answer — is this safe for my cat or not?"

So I built it. CatFoodCheck.com launched in 2025 as a simple food safety checker and has grown into a full library of vet-reviewed cat nutrition guides — all free, all accurate, all written in plain English.

Our Mission in Three Words:
Clear. Accurate. Free.

🔍

Clear

No vague answers, no buried information. Every guide gives you a direct answer — safe, toxic, or use caution — within the first paragraph. Cat owners deserve clarity, especially in an emergency.

🩺

Accurate

Every article on CatFoodCheck.com is researched against current veterinary guidelines and reviewed by licensed veterinarians before publication. We update content when new research emerges.

🎁

Founder & Editor · CatFoodCheck.com · Austin, Texas

Sarah Calloway is the founder and editor of CatFoodCheck.com. After her tabby Miso had a close call with garlic-laced broth, she became passionate about making cat food safety information accessible, accurate, and easy to find.

With a background in research and content writing, Sarah built CatFoodCheck.com from scratch — developing the food safety checker, writing every guide, and establishing the vet review process that makes the site a trusted resource for cat owners across the US.

When she is not researching cat nutrition, she is usually at home in Austin with Miso and Biscuit, testing new cat food brands and adding to the site's ever-growing food database.
